There is a warm, rustic, wood charm in Wash's Tree House. The cozy room is upstairs and is supported by a huge Cedar tree from the living area below. Looking up from the fireplace, the room appears like a tree house. Two old original farmhouse windows open from within the bedroom for a view into the vaulted living area. You can rest in bed or relax in the antique rocking chair and watch the glow of the fireplace below.

Wash's Story -
Washington Crawford lived here with his wife and daughter and built parts of the original farmhouse sometime around 1899. Some of his descendents still live close by, and have shared some great stories about the Crawford's, and some of their adventures living in this 85 acre hollow. Wash was not only a farmer that worked the hills and ridges in sweet corn and sugar cane, but was also a blacksmith. He forged many shoes and made all the original hardware for our old barn as well as for many of the other farms around. He was known by the locals for his team of mules and how they could pull up anything and would stand on the side of hills too steep for a goat.

Open the door to Lily's Attic and unlock fond memories of the past. The room is filled with some original belongings and antiques from the Crawford family, who lived in the hollow some 100+ years ago. There is an vintage double bed as well as an heirloom single bed, which makes the room perfect for sisters, friends, father's and son's or couples who use the extra bed to stretch out and read. Lily's Story - Lily was Wash and Hattie Crawford's only child. She was the last of their family to live on the farm before the old homestead became abandoned for over thirty years. The life estate that her Dad placed in the Deed always gave her the right to live in the farmhouse as long as she was alive. When Lily became older, the family eventually sold the overgrown and neglected valley. The property changed hands a few times before your hosts, David and Sharon, stumbled upon Butterfly Hollow. Each new owner purchased the property with the intention of taking down the old farmhouse and building a new home, but because of the life estate and Lily's intention to live a good, long life, each owner eventually sold the property. Her daughter Jane says that "Mom always wanted to live back in the hollow again. I think she hung around long enough for David and Sharon to find it". Sadly, she never was able to come back home. Lilly passed away the month after David and Sharon found Butterfly Hollow, and in her honor, there is a room with her name inside the restored and renovated 1899 farmhouse.
