Your Wedding Day
Your Wedding Day
There are many unique places in Butterfly Hollow for your wedding ceremony. If you have chosen a package that includes lodging you’ll be able to choose a location that calls to the both of you. Most weddings that include guests are held at the hillside cedar gazebo. It sits among flowers on the edge of the woods overlooking the farmhouse and hollow and is one of the most beautiful spots for a wedding celebration. The gazebo also has several log and wooden benches around it for your guests. There is also a rustic grape arbor that is seasonally covered with flowers and vines. If the weather is unfavorable, the open barn is available as well as the farmhouse wraparound porch or inside beside the field stone fireplace, are all cozy alternatives. The ceremony location will be decorated with a natural flare with plenty of flowers. We will usually have some soft instrumental music playing along with the birds and sounds of nature.
Decorations in good taste, which do not clash with the Inn or Grounds are welcome, providing they do not damage the buildings, facilities or grounds. Decorations need to be designed so they can be fastened and displayed without nails or other items which damage benches, the barn, or gazebo. Much of the beauty of Butterfly Hollow is in its simplicity. Beyond flowers, we believe a minimum of decoration is needed. Butterfly Hollow staff must approve all decorating plans in advance of the event. No nails, thumbtacks or tape of any kind are to be used anywhere as they may damage surfaces. All decorations must be taken down and removed from Butterfly Hollow at the end of your event. Any decorations left behind will incur a $100 fee for removal and dumping fees at the local county waste facility.
The pictures of your wedding day are what will last forever. We take extreme pride in capturing the emotion, love and passion that will radiate around you on this special day. We’ll photograph after the ceremony, candid moments as well as a few posed bridal pictures and if your wedding package includes guests, we’ll also include a few group pictures as well as family photographs. Your guests are also welcome to bring along cameras or a video camera to capture your day. We do ask that when we steal the bride and groom away for your own bridal photos, that we be the only ones taking pictures. This is primarily so you will feel more comfortable and relaxed and won’t struggle with knowing which camera to smile at. The best pictures we have taken are simply when the couple radiates their love for each other and aren’t afraid to touch, laugh, giggle, kiss and hug, which usually happens quite naturally on a wedding day and in this romantic setting.
Formal or Informal
This is your day and should be a celebration that encompasses all your wedding dreams as well as symbolizes you as individuals and your love for each other. There are no standards that should be followed. If you have always imagined that long white dress and your man in a tux…. Be formal. It makes beautiful pictures. If you want to be more relaxed, be yourself and dress to be comfortable. The ceremony can also reflect your wishes and can include formal traditions like having a unity candle or sand candle celebration or less traditional elements like reading a poem to each other, having a song sung, or using the Apache wedding blessing.
In addition to the lovely sounds of nature that are a part of all weddings in Butterfly Hollow, you are also more than welcome to bring along a CD with a special song to play as you walk to the wedding site, or perhaps to dance to. We also have a large selection of instrumental music too that can be softly playing. If you have chosen the Intimate Hollow Wedding or Celebration package and want to make your celebration feel truly magical, there are several professional musicians from the Nashville area that we would recommend for that special touch.
Most of the weddings in the hollow are officiated by Dave, who is also one of the owners of Butterfly Hollow. You are also more than welcome to have your own minister or other officiant come and perform the ceremony. They would not count towards your package’s guest limit. The ceremonies that Dave performs are legal and binding. He is ordained as a non-denominational officiant and loves creating ceremonies that are heart felt and entertaining and as much about the two of you as he can learn.
What happens if it rains or is too cold
You can still have a beautiful, intimate and cozy ceremony with flowers, candles and natural touches on the covered wrap around porch of the farmhouse or inside beside the fieldstone fireplace. Usually if there is a 40% or higher chance of rain, we will setup and decorate the farmhouse or porch for the ceremony, cake and toast.
